Will there ever be a time when Mean Girls will just not be applicable to our lives? We’re going with ‘no’, and we’re hoping it stays that way for a long, long time to come.
Despite being over 10 years old, Mean Girls still manages to hit the nail on the head for so many things – not least Halloween. Their depiction of Halloween in Girl World is absolutely spot-on, and still makes us chuckle and cringe in equal measures.
Not sure what I’m on about? Here’s the scene in all its glory:
While we reckon Cady’s zombie bride Halloween outfit is pretty darn fetch, we feel her humiliation. We’ve all had that Bridget Jones moment where we’ve turned up to a party in completely the wrong outfit for the occasion. Although if you’re going to do it, it’s better to turn up in more clothes than is necessary. Much warmer that way, amirite.
The Rules of Halloween in Girl World
“In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”
Yep, couldn’t have put it better myself. Forget looking scary. Once you’ve passed the age of 16, it seems that Halloween outfits tend to stumble from ‘modest’ to ‘pretty much non existent.‘ I mean, who wants to dress up as a zombie or a blood-stained vampire when you’ve got cutesy mouse outfits? Or, even better, just some pretty lingerie?
Halloween in girl world pretty much takes on a life of its own. Many girls just use it as an excuse to dress up in revealing outfits, all to show off to the cute guy they’ve got their eye on. It’s like some weird macabre debutante ball. But what about guys? Do you follow the same rules? Nah, it seems that they’ll basically dress up as the bloodiest, grimmest thing they can get their hands on. Sigh.
